Bible Question:
Does Deuteronomy 24:1-4 say a person can marry their ex-spouse again?

Bible Answer:
Deuteronomy 24:1-4 is about divorce and remarriage. The passage tells us that a man or woman cannot return to a former spouse and marry him or her if the former spouse had subsequently married another person.

Deu 24:1  When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
Deu 24:2  And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife.
Deu 24:3  And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife;
Deu 24:4  Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

Thank you for your question! This is precisely what this passage is saying. When the person you have married runs off and has married another, they cannot return back to you.

Truth is truth.

Yes either man or woman. As for causing the land to sin, I'm not quite sure. It could mean to cause the country to sin by their potential condoning of it.

According to Wesley commentary on that verse it states:
"Thou shalt not cause the land to sin -- Thou shalt not suffer such lightness to be practised, lest the people be polluted, and the land defiled and accursed by that means." In other words lead not others to follow your sin.
