This year, RMM has prepared a non-denominational Farmworker Sabbath Guide that congregations throughout the state can use to focus on immigrant farmworkers during one weekend of Lent, which is traditionally a time when people of faith are asked to repent from practices that do not follow the scriptural mandate to welcome the stranger.

Yes, this Farmworker Sabbath is only during one weekend during Lent. But the Farmworker Sabbath Guide provides some additional information about what the Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act would include. And guess what the very first thing this law would include?

That farmworkers are excluded from the labor laws of New York State is a disgrace. The Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act would correct this injustice. This new law would:
•Allow farmworkers one day of rest each week

And what do you think that one day of rest would be? Maybe the same day of rest that Pope Francis is encouraging people to keep holy?

Truth is truth.
